Josh Naylor is a Canadian professional baseball player who not only excels as a first baseman but also as an outfielder. Currently, he’s showcasing his skills with the Cleveland Guardians in Major League Baseball. Despite his young age, Josh has already become quite famous in the world of baseball, starting his career in 2019.
From the very start of his baseball journey, Josh received advice from his colleagues and senior players about losing some weight. In fact, weight had been a bit of a challenge for him. So, after discussions with his coach and doctor, Josh made the decision to shed some extra pounds.
Following the advice of his experienced teammates, Josh managed to lose over 30 pounds. This wasn’t just a boost to his health; it also significantly improved his performance on the field. Now, you might be wondering how he achieved this transformation. If you’ve been curious about it, you’re about to find out.
Josh Naylor’s Weight Loss Journey
When the world shut down due to the pandemic of Covid-19, Naylor knew that it was the perfect time to get rid of some extra pounds. As sports of all types were closed during the lockdown, Josh got free time to embark on the journey of weight loss.
The young baseman worked on his diet and workout plan. He adopted a diet plan that consisted of a few calories and did a lot of workouts at his home. Here are the details:

Josh’s Diet Plan
Naylor has made some big changes to his diet. He starts his day with a bowl of oatmeal. For lunch and dinner, Josh chooses green veggies salad, chicken, fish, or sushi. He also consumes less alcohol than before and instead drinks more fruit and vegetable juice. His focus is on the organic diet plan.
Josh’s Workout Plan
During the quarantine period, Naylor worked out on his lawn, where he lifted weights and did squats, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and other cardio workouts. At first, Josh adopted a rather extreme workout routine that had negative effects on his fitness.
Talking about which, Naylor said, “I just kind of tried to beat myself every day. I didn’t set a mark for a month or anything like that. I tried to kill myself every day. If I did that, if I went home and fell asleep right away, I had a good day. If I didn’t, I didn’t.”
However, soon he realized that he was pushing himself too hard and switched to a safe workout routine. He still follows the diet and workout routine.
Before & After Weight Loss
Back when he was at his heaviest, Josh weighed about 255 pounds. But after shedding 30 pounds, he’s now hanging around 220 to 225 pounds. However, here’s a surprising thing about Josh: he doesn’t really put much stock in numbers. This is what he had to say:
“I don’t believe in numbers. I don’t look at numbers. I don’t focus on them because numbers can mess with your mind. You see a number you don’t like, and you might push yourself too hard and end up hurting yourself.” So, Josh’s approach is all about staying safe and making just the right efforts to lead a healthy life.
Final Words
To live a good life, you must live a healthy life first. Being an athlete doesn’t mean that Naylor needs a more healthy life than any of us. It is just that his profession shows it. The proverb “Health is Wealth” is not included in every culture for nothing.
