Why and When did Ben Lose Weight?
This is the question that Affleck gets asked frequently. Well, he lost weight because he wanted to change his health for good.
Throughout his life, he has struggled with alcohol addiction. As it goes, there is a history of addiction and mental health issues in Ben’s family.
Just like his grandmother, uncle, and father, Affleck struggled with alcohol addiction.
At the age of fifteen, he was sent to Outward Bound Wilderness Camp by his mother, where he learned to fight his addiction.
In his mid-twenties, Ben succeeded in becoming sober.
However, the demons were always there. Shortly after becoming sober, Affleck found himself wanting to drink again.
This had a very negative effect on his mental health. Ben started to think that he was never going to heal from his addiction.
At the age of 26, he fell into a state of constant anxiety and depression, to fight this, Affleck started taking antidepressants, which proved to be helpful but weren’t the permanent solution.
However, as time passed, Affleck came to terms with himself. He accepted as he was.
“It took me a long time to fundamentally, deeply, without a hint of doubt, admit to myself that I am an alcoholic,” Ben said.
He now follows a twelve-step program, which has greatly helped Ben in fighting his addiction and in getting out of his mind.
To improve his health further, Ben decided to shed the pounds that he had gained during his addiction.
The only problem was his daily busy schedule.
But as the pandemic hit the world in 2019, Affleck decided that it was time to lose some pounds and become even healthier.
