This was certainly the case with Bates. And because of her weight gain, she was facing diabetes. Basically, Kathy was stuck in a vicious cycle. Another reason was that she wanted to live a healthy life and well, who doesn’t want to live a healthy life?

After taking these factors into consideration, she decided to embark on the journey to lose weight. Talking with Extratv, Bates said, “I was facing diabetes. It runs in my family and I really didn’t want to live with that.”

Talking with US Weekly, Kathy said, “My niece told me this little secret, I guess it’s no secret, it’s a biological thing, that at some point when you’re eating, you have this involuntary sigh and that’s really your brain and your stomach communicating that you’ve had enough.”

She added, “The trick is to pay attention to that and push your plate away.” By pushing her plate at the right time and being mindful of her health, Bates succeeded in losing weight and changing her overall health for good.

After getting rid of unhealthy 60 pounds, Bates weighs around 200 pounds. While in the past, her weight was 260 pounds. This huge reduction in her weight has changed her forever. And she is aspiring to lose further weight.

Kathy’s Comments on Losing Weight

When Bates was asked what was she feeling about her new physique, she answered, “I just had a physical. I’m doing great. I feel like a completely different person. I can move, I can walk. I just wish I had done it years ago.”

While Kathy was quite happy about her achievement, she didn’t forget those who are fighting cancer or are struggling with lymphedema. Talking about her hopes, she said, “There are a lot of things that I want. I would say the first thing is education, the second thing is dollars for research (for the cure of cancer).”

She added, “I want patients to be able to come out of the shadows and receive the kind of care they need. I want people to know what it is so they can get treatment early before it progresses to its most difficult stages.”
