Martin is a British chef and TV personality. He rose to prominence after his appearance on the BBC’s cookery series, Saturday Kitchen. James hosted the show from 2006 to 2016, until he left BBC. As of now, Martin is hosting Saturday Morning with James Martin.
Besides being a chef and a TV host, James is also the author of several books. Some of his works include Easy British Food, Eating In With James Martin, and James Martin’s Desserts. As James’ cooking became more famous he started appearing in more cooking shows.
James Martin’s Weight Loss Journey
Now, being around delicious food all the time isn’t an easy job. There is a lot of temptation involved. With the passage of time, he put up extra pounds, which started slowing him down. Martin was even mocked on the internet for his weight.
However, as of now, he is living a healthy and happy life. How did this happen? After being mocked and receiving advice from his doctor, Martin embarked on a weight loss journey and succeeded in losing 6 stone (84 pounds).

So, how did this journey start? According to James, he started losing weight when he participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2005. Along with his dancing partner, Camilla Dallerup, Martin practiced dancing a lot.
As a result of which, he lost 14 pounds just within a week. This was a big moment for Martin. He realized that he was capable enough of getting out of this non-stop spiral of living unhealthily. Although James didn’t become the winner of the show, he did gain something more important.
Because of appearing in the show, he realized what a blessing good health can be. As Martin lost 1 stone, he felt the power of being a healthy and lightweight person. Keeping this feeling in mind, he embarked on the journey to lose weight.
How did Martin Lose Weight?
It was clear that being a chef, James will not be able to get away from delicious dishes, however, what could be done was build a strong power of will. Martin changed his diet completely. He limited the processed sugar consumption and fatty food.
Instead of that, James’ focus was on healthy food such as green vegetables, fruits, lean meat, and other healthy foods. James eliminated processed food from his diet completely. He also stayed away from drinking alcohol.
Another thing that Martin gave much attention to was his hydration level. He drank a lot of water in order to keep his energy level up, which helped him in exercising efficiently. “Water keeps your brain healthy and it keeps your skin healthy and it keeps you focused,” James said.
He added, “It’s crazy when you give up soft drinks how much more your brain feels alive, it’s very weird.” In an interview, when he was asked whether he goes to the gym or not, Martin answered in the following way:
“I don’t go to the gym. For me, water is the key. As you get older, I realised I don’t need to go to the gym, I’m working in the kitchen all the time anyway.”
Before & After Weight Loss
Joining Strictly Come Dancing did prove quite useful after all. After getting disqualified from the show, Martin lost more than 5 stones. Until now he has lost 6 stone (84 pounds), bringing his weight down to 182 pounds, whereas before, he weighed around 266 pounds.
Martin’s Advice for His Fans
Martin never forgets his viewers. He remembers them even when he is off the show. Talking in an interview, James gave a message to his fans saying,
“Losing weight is a balance of everything, it’s getting off your a*se and doing more and not eating less, but eating a variety of different things. I think a lot more so when people were locked down and bingeing on certain things.”
