Randy Jackson began his career in the 1980s and made a name for himself with numerous musical masterpieces. He also appeared on various television shows and even served as a judge on American Idol. However, despite his success, Randy faced some serious health challenges.
Obesity had been a struggle for Randy since childhood, but it became even more pronounced as his career took off. During the second season of American Idol, Randy’s health took a turn for the worse.
When he visited the doctor, he received some concerning news—he had developed type 2 diabetes. His blood sugar levels had skyrocketed to a dangerous 500, compared to the normal level of 80 mg/dl.
At the time, Randy’s weight was a worrisome 358 pounds. It was clear that something needed to change.
The doctor advised that the best way to combat this disease was by losing weight. This marked the beginning of Randy’s weight loss journey.
Since then, Randy Jackson has managed to shed more than 110 pounds, achieving an extraordinary feat. Let’s find out how he accomplished this remarkable transformation.
How did Randy Lose Weight?
The doctor suggested to Jackson that he should lose weight immediately otherwise, his health might get worse. Given the circumstances, Jackson knew that the only solution was to undergo weight-loss surgery.
Randy underwent gastric bypass surgery and ended up losing 114 pounds. After the surgery, things settled down for once.
However, it wasn’t it. After months of surgery, Jackson started gaining weight again. On this, he became so much worried.
After discussing the matter with specialists, Randy realized that surgery or any solution wasn’t enough until and unless he works on his eating habits. Having this realization, Jackson changed his diet plan by a great margin.

Randy’s Diet Plan
“I had to get it down man, I had a food divorce is what I usually say,” said Jackson in his interview with Tiffany Haddish. He continued, “I had to let it all go and start over”. Restricting his eating habits seemed very hard to Jackson as he has been a food lover since his childhood.
“After the show, everybody hangs out and eats and drinks. There are all kinds of sandwiches plus chips, cheeses, cookies, cakes, candies, beer, and wine” counted Jackson. However, with the passage of time, Randy learned how to put limits on his food consumption.
He restrained himself from all fast food and processed food alike. His diet plan comprises organic and fresh fruits and vegetables. Jackson has also limited his drinking habits.
Randy Keeps Walking
After the surgery, the doctors also suggested to Jackson that he should go for walks more often.
Since then, Jackson has gone for walks as long as for 2 to 3 hours. He wakes early in the morning and goes for a walk on a daily basis.
Besides, Randy walks on the treadmill for half an hour daily. He has also started practicing Yoga.
In his interview with the outlet, Jackson said, “I have become more accustomed to yoga. I love the stretching and how it makes my body feel better and looser”.
