You might recognize Larson if you’ve followed the History Channel’s show, “Alone.” If not, let’s introduce you! Sam is an accomplished author and outdoor educator, while Larson is known for teaching wilderness living classes.
Larson made his debut on “Alone” in its first season, but he didn’t go very far at that time. However, when he returned in season 5, he came fully prepared and emerged as the winner. Winning “Alone” is no small feat!
In this unique competition, participants are tasked with surviving in the wilderness for months. The ultimate goal is to outlast all the others, but contestants can’t rely on any external sources for food or water while they’re out there. It’s an incredible test of survival skills!
Sam lost 80 Pounds while Surviving
In the challenging competition set in Mongolia, contestants had to rely on their resourcefulness to extract their own food and water for survival.
After a few weeks, Sam encountered difficulties in finding enough food. His desperation and hunger began to take a toll on his self-control.
As the days passed and Larson continued to endure hunger for over 8 days, his energy dwindled, and he feared elimination, jeopardizing his chances of winning the competition. Determined not to give up, he made every effort to stay active and in the game.
Sam started finding worms to eat. Now, worms weren’t very hard to find in the wild. He even ate leeches which he remembers to this day. While eating leech, Larson explained the experience as “gross”.
Food wasn’t the only problem. Mongolia’s hard weather was also a factor to consider. Larson built the warmer shelter he could from the resources of the wild. That’s how he managed to stay on the show and finally became the winner. However, he lost 80 pounds in the process.
Where is Sam now?
As of now, Sam Larson is fit and healthy. He has regained his energy and is totally okay. Larson shares a son and a daughter with his wife. They all live happily.
When Sam returned home, his wife took so much care of him that only in a month, Larson was happy and back to the point on which he left for the show.
The wild has also given a tough time to other participants of the show, Alone. Find out how Callie Russell, Biko Wright, and Russell Hantz lost and regained weight while trying to survive.
