The Mexican boxer, Ruiz, has established himself as a true champion many times over and is considered one of the greatest boxers ever.
He achieved the title of a former Unified Heavyweight Champion, and he was the first Mexican boxer to become the world heavyweight champion.
In 2021, Andy earned a place among the top 10 boxers according to The Ring magazine, ESPN, and the Transformational Boxing Rankings Board. He was a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division.

Andy appears to be quite content with his weight loss when he talks about it. But his fans are worried about the impact on his boxing career.
Some believe that shedding the weight will only improve his performance, while others think it might diminish his punching power, which was one of his strengths.

Andy Ruiz’s Weight Loss Journey
Ruiz’s weight loss journey started when he lost his fight with Joshua in Saudi Arabia. “When I lost that fight I gained up to 310 pounds”, Andy recalled. After that, Andy embarked on the journey to lose weight. He had a goal right in front of him: to lose weight that was stopping him.
His sudden and huge transformation has shocked everyone. Not only his fans but his opponents as well. While most of the people were worried about the fall in Andy’s power, Andy, himself, was quite sure that this wasn’t the case.
“When you lose 55 pounds, isn’t this possible that you have lost some of your punching power as well? Doesn’t this concern you?”, the interviewer asked Ruiz. His reply was very interesting. Ruiz answered, “No, that doesn’t concern me at all”.
Turning to our next question, How did Andy lose so much weight? He has followed a well-established diet plan. The thing that made a huge difference in Ruiz’s weight loss journey was his non-stop workouts in the gym. Following are the details.
Andy’s Diet Plan
When Andy chose to lose weight, he cut down his food consumption by half. He gave up eating oily foods.
Most of the time, Andy would go for the salad. To avoid excessive sugar consumption, Andy also gave up drinking. Instead of alcohol, he chose to drink fresh fruit juice.
Andy’s Workout Plan
Now that the Mexican boxer had decided to lose weight, he was spending more time in the gym. He would do all cardio workouts.
Besides that, Ruiz would run for hours. He knew that if he was to lose weight he might lose some of his punching power, so he wanted to substitute it with speed.
In his interview with Men’s Health, Ruiz described his hardships as “I was so depressed and tired of the way I was living,”. Ruiz continued, “I prayed to God to forgive me for the things I’ve done and to give me the strength to change. The next day, all the temptations went away, my mind focused and I knew what I wanted and needed to do” [1].
After losing more than 50 pounds, Ruiz started showing up for workouts in a unique way. He would wear a black t-shirt that had a quote over it, I don’t want to be fat anymore.
Before & After Weight Loss
Ruiz, wearing a big smile, enthusiastically revealed to the interviewer, “Guess what? I’m now down to a healthy weight range of 255 to 257 pounds. That’s quite a drop from where I started at 310 pounds!” It’s incredible to think that he managed to shed a significant 55 pounds on his journey to better health.
